Lowbrow and highbrow meanderings through the zeitgeist from a girl who brought a book to recess.
I’m a lawyer and writer in Evanston, Illinois by way of the Berkshires, Brooklyn, Cambridge, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. My two favorite things to talk about are books and motherhood, and so much of my writing centers these topics in one way or another. I’m interested in the labor (in all of its forms) of motherhood and how our society fails to support mothers, kids, and families. I love being a mom, and also love having full-time childcare. I’m interested in representations of motherhood in the culture at large, what we believe about motherhood, and what we do not talk about when we talk about motherhood. My writing is informed by my training as a lawyer and researcher, my background in reproductive justice and local government, and the fact that I’ve been a voracious reader since I was five years old.
Every two weeks, I offer a round-up of cultural recommendations and mini-reviews. I call this “A la Carte.”
